Housed in a former convent for the nuns and then a Retreat Center, “La Casa” has been repurposed into an exhibit space that showcases the Center’s diverse and extensive collections.
Home to one of the most complete Cuban Tobacco history collections, the Center also houses a Historic Document Collection that includes correspondence and documents dating back to the 1400s, a library of more than 5,000 rare and unique books, a Weapons Room featuring weapons and uniforms used in the Cuban-Spanish independence wars, a Map Room, and historic colonial and religious art throughout. The Center’s administrative offices are also located here.
La Casa is available to visit by appointment for research in its Library, Document and Collection rooms, for meetings of community organizations, for tours of its many collections, and for a growing variety of cultural and artistic opportunities. La Casa’s collections and administrative offices will move to the anticipated Cultural Center Plaza.
